Family & Children Studio Photography
Capturing the authentic bonds and fleeting moments of childhood in a professional, patient, and light-filled Brisbane studio environment.
Family photography is more than just a posed arrangement of people; it is about documenting the evolving dynamics of love, growth, and connection. At Barbevexaxo, we specialise in creating a relaxed atmosphere where children can be themselves and parents can feel confident, resulting in portraits that reflect the true spirit of your family. Our Brisbane studio is designed to be a sanctuary of creativity, providing the balance of professional control and organic interaction.
We understand that photographing children requires a specific set of skills—patience, playfulness, and an ability to adapt to the unpredictable nature of toddlers and infants. By combining high-end lighting techniques with a gentle approach, we ensure that every smile is genuine and every glance is meaningful. Whether you are celebrating a first birthday, documenting a new addition to the family, or simply wanting to preserve the current chapter of your lives, our studio provides the technical precision and emotional intelligence required for timeless results.
Our Session Process
Consultation & Planning
We begin with a detailed discussion about your family's needs, preferred colour palettes, and the specific mood you wish to achieve. We provide guidance on wardrobe coordination to ensure the photos remain timeless and cohesive.
The Studio Experience
Upon arrival, we allow children time to acclimatise to the studio environment. The session is conducted as a series of guided interactions rather than rigid poses, ensuring the children remain engaged and happy.
Image Selection
Following the shoot, we curate a selection of high-quality captures. You will receive an online gallery where you can review the images and select the frames that represent your family's connection.
Artistic Retouching
Your selected images undergo professional retouching. We focus on natural enhancements—correcting skin tones and removing temporary distractions—while preserving the authentic character of your loved ones.
Who is this service for?
Our family studio sessions are tailored for parents who value high-quality, archival-grade imagery over casual snapshots. This service is ideal for growing families in Brisbane who want a controlled environment where lighting and background are perfected, removing the unpredictability of outdoor weather. We specifically cater to parents of infants and young children who require a photographer capable of managing short attention spans and emotional volatility with professional ease.
Additionally, we welcome multi-generational shoots. Documenting the relationship between grandchildren and grandparents is a cornerstone of our practice. By utilising our 120 m² studio space, we can comfortably accommodate larger family groups while maintaining the intimacy required for close-up portraiture.
How the studio work is conducted
The workflow is designed to minimise stress. We utilise a white cyclorama wall which provides a clean, infinite background, ensuring the focus remains entirely on the subjects. Our lighting kit, consisting of professional strobe and continuous LED systems, is adjusted to be soft and flattering, avoiding harsh shadows that can often intimidate children.
We operate on a strict appointment basis to ensure each family has the studio's undivided attention. The session typically involves a mix of traditional portraits and "lifestyle" moments—such as parents playing with children or siblings interacting—which often yield the most emotive results. Our team ensures that the environment remains temperature-controlled and welcoming, with a private dressing room available for outfit changes.
Preparing your family for the shoot
To achieve professional results, preparation is key. We recommend that children are well-rested and fed immediately before the session; a hungry or tired child is significantly harder to engage. We advise against dressing children in overly restrictive clothing that may cause irritability. Neutral tones, soft textures, and a lack of large logos or distracting patterns generally work well against our white cyclorama.
For parents, we suggest coordinating colours rather than matching them exactly. A palette of creams, greys, or soft pastels creates a sophisticated look. Please bring along any meaningful props, such as a favourite toy or a family heirloom, as these can serve as great ice-breakers for shy children and add a personal touch to the narrative of the shoot.
What you receive upon completion
At the end of the process, clients receive a comprehensive digital package. This includes the selected images in high-resolution JPEG format, suitable for large-scale printing and archival storage. Additionally, we provide a set of optimised versions specifically formatted for social media and digital sharing, ensuring the images look professional across all screens.
All delivery is handled via a secure online gallery. This gallery remains active for a set period, allowing you to download your images at your convenience. Please note that while we provide professionally edited JPEGs, RAW files are not provided as part of the standard package, as they represent an unfinished stage of our artistic process.
Delivery timelines and storage
We believe in a thorough post-production process. The standard delivery time for the final retouched images is 10 working days from the date of your final selection. This window allows our senior retoucher to apply meticulous attention to detail to every frame.
Regarding data security, Barbevexaxo stores your original session files for 6 months. This provides a safety net should you lose your downloads or wish to order additional retouches later. After this period, files are permanently deleted from our servers to comply with our data privacy standards. We encourage all clients to back up their final images in multiple locations.
What is not included in the session
To maintain transparency, it is important to note what the standard session does not cover. Our pricing does not include physical prints, canvases, or albums; we provide the digital files which you are free to print at your preferred professional lab. Makeup and hair styling are not included, although we provide a dedicated makeup station for your own use.
Furthermore, the session fee covers the studio time and the agreed-upon number of retouched images. Any additional images requested for retouching beyond the included quota will incur an extra fee. Travel to external locations is not included in this studio-specific service; for on-location shoots, please refer to our general services hub.
Pricing and GST Calculation
In accordance with Australian tax law, all our prices are listed including the Goods and Services Tax (GST) of 10%. When you view our pricing, the "inc GST" figure is the total amount payable. The final cost is calculated based on the session type selected. We require a 30% deposit to secure your booking date. This deposit is non-refundable but can be transferred to a new date if the reschedule request is made at least 3 days prior to the appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions
What happens if my child is shy or refuses to cooperate?
This is very common and is exactly why we use a patient, play-based approach. We don't force poses; instead, we use games and interaction to make the child feel comfortable. If a child is truly overwhelmed, we can take a break or adjust the session flow. Our goal is a positive experience, not a stressful one.
Can we bring a pet to the family session?
We love pets! Well-behaved dogs are welcome in our studio. We simply ask that they are on a leash and that you bring a helper to manage the pet when they are not in the frame. Please notify us in advance so we can prepare the studio area accordingly.
Is there a limit to how many family members can be in one shoot?
Our studio is spacious enough for most extended families. However, for groups larger than 6 people, we recommend a brief consultation to ensure we allocate enough time for both group shots and smaller breakout portraits (e.g., just parents and children).
What is your policy regarding children's safety?
Safety is our priority. In accordance with our business rules, parental or legal guardian presence is mandatory for all sessions involving children. We maintain a clean, safe studio environment, but the responsibility for the child's immediate supervision remains with the parent.
